Ahoy expansion gets underway

The 15,000-capacity Rotterdam Ahoy is to build a new convention centre, featuring a live music venue, within its grounds.

Work on the building was started in July, with the event and concert venue expected to open in 2020.

The four-storey Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Centre, designed by Kraaijanger Architects, will include the RTM Stage, which will have a seated capacity of 2,750 and be able to accommodate up to 7,000 people for concerts when seating is removed.

“After years of preparation construction has now commenced and when we celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2021 our wonderful new venue will be here,” says Ahoy’s CEO Peter van der Veer.

Acts playing the Ahoy include 50 Cent, Arcade Fire and Queen + Adam Lambert.
