THE 40,000-capacity Download Festival in Madrid will not take place next year as organiser Live Nation Spain (LNS) tries to find a more suitable site for the three-year-old event.

This year’s event took place at Caja Mágica between 28 and 30 June and featured Slipknot, Tool and Scorpions.

“A new site is the main goal – we are looking for a location with more and better public transport, so help fans enter and leave the festival more easily,” says festival director Carlos Asmarats tells Audience. “Then we also need to find out the best dates too.

“Once those two points are fixed, we’re sure production and costs will be more efficient and that’s what we are working on.”

Asmarats he hopes the festival will return in 2021.

LNS says no artistes had been confirmed for next year’s event and tickets were not on sale.
