THE COUNTRY’S first Hard Rock Hotel has opened at London’s Marble Arch, less than a mile from the original Hard Rock Café, which was established in Mayfair’s Old Park Lane in 1971.
The hotel boasts 900 rooms and suites, along with a Hard Rock Café, cocktail bar and live performance stage, which hosts nightly shows by unsigned and emerging artistes.
“Every Hard Rock Hotel property is one-of-a-kind, but this one represents something special for the brand,” says senior vice-president of Hard Rock Hotels Dale Hipsh.
Memorabilia such as a letter written in 1958 by the late Buddy Holly, while he stayed at the former Cumberland Hotel, now the Hard Rock, and the Kirkwood piano that Queen’s Freddie Mercury practiced on as a teenager, are displayed in the lobby.
“Blending the DNA of the Hard Rock brand with London’s musical culture creates a memorable experience for all guests to enjoy,” says the hotel’s general manager Ian Fletcher.
Cementing its arrival on the London music scene, the hotel is supporting (Audience sister publication’s) annual conference and networking event LIVE UK Summit and the Live Music Business Awards, which have both moved to the sub-hotel Great Cumberland Place event facilities, set for Wednesday 30 October.
The hotel, run in partnership with London’s largest hotel owner-operator GHL, is the brand’s second major London opening this year, with the launch of a second stand-alone Hard Rock Café – aimed at a younger clientele – in the West End’s Piccadilly Circus.
The brand has venues in 74 countries, including 186 Hard Rock Cafes, 241 Rock Shop retail outlets, 29 hotels and 12 casinos.
