Montreux ‘pulls out the stops’ for Elton farewell

April 1, 2019

THE MULTI-venue Montreux Jazz Festival is to host Elton John this summer as part of the Rocket Man’s final tour, with shows upgraded from arena dates to a stadium.

Part of the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, the concert will now take place on 29 June at the 15,000-capacity Saussaz Stadium in Montreux. The show replaces the original two concerts at the Auditorium Stravinski (cap. 4,000) on June 29 and 30.

“There are some events you just can’t afford to miss,” says a spokesman for the festival. “Elton John’s farewell tour is one of them.

“That’s why the Montreux Jazz Festival is pulling out all the stops for his unique appearance here.”

This is the first time John has played the festival.

The stadium is perched above the city, located between a lake and mountains.
