The new CEO of Dubai-based promoter 117 Live says the company is planning global expansion.

John Oakes has taken over the role from Thomas Ovesen, who left the company to become vice-president of programming at Dubai Arena (cap. 20,000), due to open next year (see Audience issue 215).

Oakes will divide his time between Dubai and Los Angeles, where he runs entertainment consultancy firm Freeze Management and 117 also has an office.

“We have plans for growth and will do between five to eight large scale concerts in Dubai this year, and more across the US and throughout Asia,” Oakes tells Audience.

The operator of the 25,000-capacity open-air Autism Rocks Arena, 117 has promoted shows with artistes such as Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez and Elton John.

“We will continue to host the biggest and best talent in the world while we grow our support with developing talent with future projects and expansion,” says Oakes.
