Reeperbahn goes global

GERMAN SHOWCASE festival and conference Reeperbahn Festival is launching a series of spin-off events around the world aimed at supporting small and medium-sized music businesses wanting to reach new markets.

Under the title Reeperbahn Festival International (RFI), the spin-offs will take place in Nashville and Los Angeles in the US, Beijing in China  and Accra in Ghana, with financial support from the German Federal Foreign Office.

The initiative also includes expansion of the festival’s three-year presence at America’s A2IM Indie Week in New York.

Partnering with existing music conferences, RFI will involve showcases, workshops, networking events where companies and their artistes can meet potential partners.

“We picked the locations based on feedback from the music industry, who told us as well as New York, they wanted to develop connections in LA, Nashville, Asia and Africa,” says Reeperbahn general manager Alexander Schulz.

“We are targeting companies of one to 10 employees, so for them to spend $3,000-4,000 and be out of the office for a week, that’s a lot of investment. We need to deliver value for money. Our medium-term aim is that within four years there should be around 100 companies interested in attending each spin-off.”
