A transmission from space during Kraftwerk’s performance at the Jazz Open Festival in Stuttgart was just one of the events recognised at the PRG Live Entertainment Awards (LEA).

Promoters Opus and MCT Agentur, and the European Astronaut Centre were presented with the Concert of the Year award for the 20 July feat, which saw astronaut Dr Alexander Gerst address the crowd before performing live with the band – from the International Space Station.

Continuing the theme, among the winners at the 14th LEA included Mehr-BB Entertainment’s production of Starlight Express, which won Show of the Year, while a touch of Hollywood stardom came from a performance by Kiefer Sutherland.

Other winners included FKP Scorpio, which scooped Stadium Tour of the Year ( Ed Sheeran); Semmel Concerts Entertainment, which won Arena Tour of the Year (The Kelly Family) and Wizard Promotions was awarded Indoor Tour of the Year for the 40th anniversary shows by Nena.

Although they have many years of career ahead of them, the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Holger Hübner and Thomas Jensen, founders of metal festival Wacken Open Air (cap. 80,000), as well as their activities in music publishing, artiste management, merchandising and a heavy metal cruise. Live Nation Germany won Promoter of the Year.

“The LEA has become one of the most coveted and recognised awards in the German entertainment industry, and it’s growing in international attention,” says executive producer and president of promoters association BDKV Prof Jens Michow, who founded the event.

More than 1,400 people attended the event, which saw 15 awards presented to live entertainment professionals.
