COUNTRY-HOPPING world music conference and showcase event WOMEX is hailing the success of it 25th edition, which drew more than 2,500 music business professionals from 83 countries, say organisers.

Held in Tampere between 23 and 27 October and it featured 25 conference sessions with 110 speakers, 20 network meetings and presentations.

“This year’s edition had more Nordic delegates than ever and the Northern Connections Stage showcased more Nordic artistes than any previous WOMEX,” says local organising partner Tapio Korjus, MD of Rockadillo Production.

“It was a great platform for giving the spotlight to music from the neighbouring countries and their fantastic showcases were really well received by the international talent buyers.”

Among the panels were Music During the Revolutions and Social Instability, The Music of Indigenous Sovereignty and Chinese Streaming and Social Media.

Next year’s edition will take place in Budapest, Hungary on 21-25 October.
